Owners Update

Several times each year we celebrate something at Good Harvest– our anniversary, Earth Day, etc. – and this Friday and Saturday, October 3rd & 4th, we celebrate our 4th annual Harvest Fest. Autumn brings not only cooling temperatures and a turning of leaves, but the bounty of our Earth's treasures.

Celebrate with us this weekend – we'll have an organic cookout Friday night and Saturday lunch, scavenger hunts for the kids, pumpkin coloring and make-your-own caramel apples. Saturday, you can also get a free consultation from a number of alternative health professionals (including a massage!). We look forward to seeing you here! Jody & Joe

General Manager Update

One thing we love to do here is give tours and talk about organic food. If you or your organization would like a store tour, please give me a call. Our new 3rd Ward store is on schedule to open before the end of the year. Check out the constructions photos on our website. Hope to see you at Harvest Fest this Friday and Saturday and in the aisles. Ron

Department Updates

Produce

Organic cooking pumpkins are here! Apple lovers will be happy to know that we've received the first shipments of Honeycrisps. And, locally grown brussel sprouts are coming into season. Join us for caramel apple dipping during Harvest Fest. Mark

Holistics

Our health fair at the Milwaukee Public Market was well received and we met many new customers who are thrilled to have an organic store in their neighborhood. Please be sure to stop by at our next health fair on Saturday, October 4 from 11-2 pm during Harvest Fest to meet many of our holistic vendors. Enjoy samples and discover ways to stay healthy this fall season. Sarah (for Sadie)

Customer Service

We wish Chelsea, Gina, Kayla, Alexa and Elisabeth good luck as they head off to start (or continue) their college adventures! Look for some new bright faces up front to greet you as you check out. As always, please let us know if we can help you with anything while you're here. Thank you for shopping at Good Harvest Market! April

Grocery

During our Harvest Fest, look for great locally made frozen pizzas from Palermo's on both Friday and Saturday (11 - 4pm). Lolonis Merlot and Cabernet wines will be poured on Saturday from 2 to 4pm. Bulk eggs are now from Milo's, a small organic farmer in WI. My new favorite item is Nature's Path Flax & Berry Cereal. Christian

Meat and Seafood

Join us in welcoming our newest member, Brandon. For fall, we will be bringing back some of your cool weather favorites—stuffed peppers, cabbage rolls, rump roasts and briskets. Looking for something we don't carry? Just ask us - we can try to get it! Christine

Harvest Cafe

By the end of this month we should have our brand new, first ever catering menu! I will be visiting local businesses in the area and dropping off samples and copies of the menu, so if you would like me stop by your office please drop me an email at Turn on JavaScript!. Bill

Workshops & Classes

A great slate of classes this month! Betsy and John Hicks return, along with programs on natural dentistry, nutrition, eating for one (a great new monthly gathering for singles who love healthy food), a North Indian cooking class, qigong, tai chi, thermography, chinese medicine and much, much more. And soon to come will be additional classes held at the Milwaukee Public Market - they have a great facility!

Recipe of the Month

Fabulous Greek Potatoes

3 pounds baking potatoes, peeled and cut into 1 1/2-inch cubes
1/2 cup olive oil
4 garlic cloves, minced
1 1/2 teaspoons dried oregano, crumbled
1 teaspoon salt
Freshly ground black pepper
1/2 cup beef stock or chicken stock
1/3 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice
2-3 tablespoons chopped fresh oregano

Preheat oven to 400°F. In a large bowl, coat the potatoes with the olive oil, garlic, dried oregano, salt and pepper (to taste). Bake the potatoes in a single layer in a 13x9 inch baking dish for 15 minutes. Add the stock, toss and bake for 10 minutes more. Add the lemon juice, toss and bake for 10 to 15 minutes, or until the potatoes are cooked through. If you like, before serving preheat the broiler and broil the potatoes for 2 to 3 minutes, or until golden brown. Sprinkle with the fresh oregano and serve at once.

Can you guess this picture?

Last month, we had a picture which was guessed correctly by only a very few. Congratulations and lunch for 2 to Beth F and Paula L., who we selected randomly from those who correctly guessed oregano. FYI, most of the answers we received were for basil.
